Personal: Preparing my heart for revival

Wednesday, 22 May 2013

Revival rebuilds a desire for God's Word, prayer, praise and obedience. As we experience greater intimacy with God, those spiritual disciplines and activities that we once dreaded become a delight. Revival resolves conflicts. God's grace enables us to humble ourselves, admit our sinful attitudes, forgive those who have hurt us, and seek the forgiveness of those we have offended. Reconciliation – with God and others – is a mark of true revival. (Taken from: Seeking Him by Nancy Leigh DeMoss and Tim Grissom). Father, draw us away. We will run after You.

Breakthrough: Child Bride rescued

Wednesday, 22 May 2013

Taj Mohammad and his family fled from the fighting in Helmand Province in Afghanistan, nearly four years ago. Ever since, they have been living in a refugee camp. Awful conditions and harsh winters led to debilitating illness. His wife and children became very ill. Unable to care for his ailing family, Mohammad was forced to borrow money from a fellow refugee. He agreed to give his six-year-old daughter away as a bride if he was unable to pay the money. When he did not repay the lender, the lender demanded that Mohammed keep his agreement. Mohammad's young daughter was spared from marrying the 17-year-old son of the lender because of the generosity of an anonymous donor. Some are still sceptical that the girl will be safe for long. However, she is safe for the moment. Praise God for the generosity of donors who rescued the young Afghan girl. Pray for the continued safety of Afghan girls against this practice of trading them as commodities. Pray for more Afghans, men and women, to come to know the love and compassion of the Lord Jesus Christ. Ask God to protect Christian Believers and embolden them to share the Gospel.

Spiritual Awakening: Ethiopia

Wednesday, 22 May 2013

In an effort to guarantee Ethiopian human rights, the government drafted a Human Rights Action Plan. The proposal addresses issues such as education, justice, health, and freedom of expression. The government intends to implement the Human Rights Action Plan over the next few years. Praise God for the government's willingness to protect human rights in Ethiopia. Pray for the growth of the Ethiopian Church. Pray for the gospel to spread in Ethiopia and throughout all of Africa.

Social Justice: Women face subhuman treatment in Afghanistan

Wednesday, 22 May 2013

Ten years ago, when the Taliban fell, there was much promise of change. Earlier, the Taliban deprived women of opportunities for education, denied them access to medical treatment, and often publically killed them for alleged immorality. The constitution drafted in 2004 granted women equal rights. In 2009, violence against women was outlawed. These measures were meant to safeguard some basic freedom for women. Yet the problems that face Afghan women is so deeply rooted that none of the measures
have truly ensured freedom for all women. Even though girls began to go to school and women began to participate in government, many women still continue to be banned from public life. Women are constantly harassed, raped, and murdered. They are forced into underage marriages and are trapped in homes where there is unbridled domestic violence. Half the girls do not attend school, and every two hours an Afghan woman dies from pregnancy related complications. Pray Afghan women come in contact with Christian Believers who will introduce them to the Lord Jesus Christ. Pray they will experience the love of God who makes no distinctions. Pray for the protection of these women even when the NATO troops withdraw from Afghanistan.
